California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who is leading the push to restore a ban on assault weapons, acknowledged Sunday that the effort faces tough odds to pass Congress, and she blamed the National Rifle Association.

Feinstein on Thursday introduced a bill that would prohibit 157 specific weapons as well as ammunition magazines that have more than 10 rounds. The White House and her fellow Democrats skeptical are about the measure's chances, given lawmakers' fear of pro-gun
voters and the NRA.

"This has always been an uphill fight," Feinstein said. "This has never been easy. This is the
hardest of the hard.
