When your band is playing live, there's an argument that you should tip the sound man even though his salary is part of the cost of the show that you are paying for anyway.

Is it worth it?

Unless you travel with your own guy/girl, you are at the mercy of the house sound man. He has no reason to like you, and most likely will hate you because he has to work and you are having fun. Giving him $20.00, and considering it a cost of doing business is not the worst idea I've heard.

On the other hand, don't be scared by this article because the guy's job is to make everything sound good. He has pride. He is showing off in some way, but $20.00 aint much.
